The Trump administration will pay almost $ 5 million to resolve a lawsuit filed by Ashli Babbitt, a feator triggered fatally during the January 6 attack against the United States Capitol, familiar sources with the subject confirmed to ABC News on Monday.

It was not clear immediately if the agreement would require the Department of Justice to modify its public position on the Babbitt shooting or admit failures by Lieutenant Byrd or the Capitol Police. A DOJ spokesman and Babbitt’s Estate lawyers did not immediately respond to a comment request.
Capitol Chief of Police, Tom Manger, said in a statement to ABC News that he is “extremely disappointed and does not agree with this agreement.”
“In 2021, the investigation of the Department of Justice did not determine irregularities by the Police. This agreement sends a chilling message to the police throughout the country, especially those with a protective mission like ours,” he said.
The authorities in recent weeks confirmed to a federal judge that they had reached an agreement in principle to resolve the claim, which was filed during the Biden administration, although they did not reveal the terms of the pending agreement.
