A couple of legislators in California seek to prohibit agents of the law in the state to use facial coatings, amid protests in Los Angeles against the immigration policies of the Trump administration.
The sens. Sens. Scott Wiener and Jesse Arreguin, Democratic legislators of San Francisco and Oakland, respectively, announced on Monday that SB 627 would present to prohibit local, state and federal law forces to cover their faces when they interact with the public.
The legislation, called Secret Police Law, would also require the agents of the law to use identification information, Wiener wrote in a Publish in x.

During a press conference on the outskirts of the San Francisco City Council on Monday, Wiener said that the “secret police” was “grabbing” the people of the street, affiliate from Fox San Francisco KTVU reported.
Exemptions to the bill would include SWAT equipment and officers who use medical masks during natural disasters, such as forest fires, legislators said. Transparent riot team would also be allowed, since they are elapsed.

The proposed legislation occurs in the midst of several days of protests in Los Angeles on the immigration policies of the Trump administration. The protests led President Donald Trump deploying National Guard troops without the consent of the governor of California Gavin Newsom.

The Los Angeles Police Department made zero arrests on Sunday night, the first day without arrests since the protests broke out on June 6.
Wiener made reference to immigration raids under the Trump administration by presenting the bill, The San Francisco standard reported.
“Recent federal operations in California have created a deep horror environment,” Wiener said, according to the local publication. “If we want the public to trust the application of the law, we cannot allow them to behave as the secret police in an authoritarian state.”
